A Helms manual will tell you, but a word of warning: It takes some technical expertise to diagnose and change the timing on your system. Unless you've done it before, it will be a bitch to do by yourself for the first time.

There are just certain things I like to have mechanics do, mainly cause they know more than me, they have all of the proper tools, and they've done some repairs so often that they often know what to expect. There's things that I like to do, becuase they're simple and kinda fun (Spark plugs, valve adjustment, bolt-ons, and other installs that aren't too messy), but there's some things that I'm willig to pay people to have done right. It might be worth your while to just let a mechanic look at it. Hell, if you can find a mechanic that would be willing to let you peek over his shoulder for a small tip, even better! Some of those grease monkeys love to ramble about their work, will teach you more about your car in an hour than you could ever learn from an entire book. That's the only reason I know anything about cars mechanically... I get chummy with the repairman and they outline the entire repair for me, and sometimes have me work with them.

Hell, there's like 3 shops in my hometown thatt give me free lift time now

it requires dicking with the distributed and a nice handy timing gun and whatnot...i would definetly look into the timing tho, bad timing can throw yur motor to doing some crazy ass things...take it to a shop and have em time it
