Default GSR/General Car Questions

Just a few questions.

1. Yesterday, I made myself look like an idiot when I tried to prove to a couple of friends that my 1995 Integra GS-R was in fact a GS-R. I could've sworn I saw an emblem or logo that said GS-R. Or perhaps I am mistaken, and the guy I bought my car from lied when he advertised it as a GS-R. What exactly is the difference between a 1995 Acura Integra and a 1995 Acura Integra GS-R? Is there any hard proof that my car is a GS-R?

2. My Integra is black. I think it might be some offset of black; it looks like its got glitter or some sh!t in the paint. Anyway, where I live in central NY (the Catskills, mountainous region), there is a lot of roadbound rocks and big bugs, etc. These things constantly wear away the good look of my car when I first got it. There a tons of scratches and small chips where you can see tiny rocks have hit. I bought some liquid scratch remover and it doesn't seem to work. Anyone have any suggestions of scratch removers/wax to fix my cars scratched exterior? Also, any other suggestions of preventing scratches/chips?

3. My car has a moonroof that appears to be poorly maintained. Inside the metal tracks that the moonroof runs on, it looks all rusted. I lubricated the tracks several times with various oily substances (I don't recall what). Is there some sort of solution specific for cleaning sunroof/moonroof tracks? If not, is there a substitute?

4. There appears to be a lot of rattling coming from my rear hatch. Is there any way to fix this?

5. The tip of my exhaust pipe seems to be charred or just incredibly dirty. How do I clean it?

6. I can tell its going to be an incredibly hot summer here in NY. Does driving with the A/C on constantly affect gas usage?

7. My windows rattle quite a bit when they are rolled down anywhere from 1 to 2 inches. Is there any fix for this?

8. I notice that my lights dim slightly if I am coasting in Neutral and my 1000W Amp is put through deep bass. Is this normal?

9. How quickly will a 1000W Amp drain my battery if I have it on with the engine turned off?

I think that's it.

do you have a VTEC badge on the back? does the valve cover say VTEC on it? do you have a strut tower bar? these are some the things that you'd find on a stock GS-R that you wouldn't find on a stock non GS-R.

if you want to know for sure, what's your VIN? does it have DC2 or DB8 in it? if so, it's a GS-R.

as for some of the other questions, window and hatch rattle is a common occurance on integras.. do a search for possible solutions.

a/c will noticably affect gas milage, but it's nothing major.

as far as your lights dimming with deep bass hits, that just means your amp is drawing a bit too much power. you may want to look into capacitors or maybe a stronger alternator.

once again, try a search.. lots of these questions have been covered before.

1. If the redline is @ 8K, you have a GSR. Also, the valve cover (look under your hood says VTEC)

2. No idea

3. No idea

4. Do a search

5. Get a new one

6. It should take off about 1 mpg

7. *see 4.

8. You need to buy a cap (capacitor). These come in different sizes. You will need a 1.0 farad size. They all pretty much do the same thing, so get what looks best to you. LED caps look pretty cool.

9. I don't know, but I'm guessing really quickly, that's ALOT of power being sucked out.

BTW, what kind of subs/HU do you have? I am selling mine, 2 12" Cerwin Vega DVC's brand new $240 shipped, and a used Kenwood KDC-9017 HU for $175 shipped (works like new, it's only 6 months old!). Let me know.

1. 8K RPM redline, VTEC valve cover, GSR rims

2. try to use a claybar with some car detailing, it does wonders

3. try some grease.... i think they should have it at the dealer

4. not sure

5. *see #4*

6. lay off the throttle, you lose some torque/power so most pple drive the car harder

7. you can take apart the door panel and see if you can align/tighten the window on to the tracks ( it worked for my old caravan)

8. get a cap and you'll be fine

9. i wouldn't risk it

Tar & sap remover for the bugs, or you could lightly soak the bugs in WD40 and wipe it off with a quick detailer.

If you can feel the scratch with your fingernail there is no compound that can buff it out. You have to use touchup paint.

If you can't feel it with your fingernail, you have swirl marks or micromarring. They will have to be buffed out using a polishing compound.

3M has a great line of polishing compounds. 3M Finesse it I & II and 3M Perfect it I & II. They work best when used with a high speed buffer but can be applied by hand.

I wrote an article about it, read it here http://www.team-integra.net/sections...?ArticleID=253

Here is a small quote with the basics on hand polishing
If you are buffing by hand, always use a clean foam applicator pad. Never mix compounds on the same pad, no matter how much you wash the pad the previous compound will always have some remains on it. When buffing by hand, only move in back and forth directions. Move the pad the same way air would flow over your car, meaning from front to back. Never buff in circles, if any dirt or dust gets in your pad you are going to be creating as many swirls as you remove. You want to work the compound into your paint, don't let it dry like you would a wax. Remember that the compound needs to remove some clearcoat, so don't be afraid to put your arm into it. Start off using a good amount of pressure on the pad. As the compound starts to dry and get tacky, slowly use less and less pressure. Once the compound is almost dry, wipe the remaining off with a clean microfiber towel. Once you have finished with one area, move on to the next. A good rule of thumb is buff two square feet at a time.

For your window problem, it's been covered here before, but I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the track your windows run on (probably some dirt in there, or they need to be oiled).

I also drive a black car, and having all those imperfections show up is unavoidable. Polishing/waxing the car are your best bets.

Try going to www.vtec.net, the integra section is what you are after, search around until you find GeeSeR's site, it has a ton of info
