Does it matter which gas station you use?
I always pump my car with Amoco gas, and since I have a GS-R I gota pump premium gasoline. Today I saw Amoco premium gasoline was $1.91 per gallon, and two miles down the road, there was another gas station, and it was $1.65 per gallon for premium. And I know those of you with GS-R and Type-R vehicles, everytime you fill your tank it puts a dent in your wallet, as it does in mine. So I filled my car with the gas station that offered $1.65 for premuim gas. Total came up to $19.00 bucks, so it saved me a couple of bucks, as opposed to the Amoco gas station that would have cost me around $24.00 with the prices being so high. So I ask does it make any difference where you pump your gas? Gas is gas right?
I always wondered that too. I think the only difference is that some gas companies have there own additive in the fuel, (i.e. Chevron has Techron, 76 has pro-power, etc) So i think gas is gas since it has to meet a state to state requirement but then some fuel companies go an extra more by adding fuel enhances for better gas mile or cleaner burning fuel. You have to ask your self, why you the second gas station sale the same gas for so much less? BTW I pump 16 gal in my C43 @ $2.29 ~$36.00 every 3 days.
Items I consider:
- is it on the way to work/on the way home?
- 24/7 (so I don't have to think if the place is open)
- # of pumps
Personally, I hate waiting (for anything). I will drive by the cheapies when there are cars waiting, and go to the more-expensive big boys.
Econ 101 in action...
I was going to add a URL to refiners vs. retail stations, but didn't find anything too interesting after a 30-second search. The cheapies have to buy their gas from somewhere.... like the same refineries as the big boys.
About the only difference would be if you argue that the big boys keep better care of their truck fleets, so fewer impurities make it into the trucks/valves/whatever.

so ur saying wherever i go get my gas it's basically the same except for additives because around here the cheapest gas we get is arco or chevron then it goes to like shell and then 76 so i dunno if i should pay the extra pennies for unleaded lol
gas stations are franchises and like any other franchise market some are shady! people wit shitty places, bathrooms, no air pump hose, prolly wound't mind sticking a water hose into the underground gas tank to water down the gas. as long as they get enough cash flow to the bottom line. yes they can lose thier franchise and yes it is wrong but it does happen.. jus6t talked about this today in my business law class. i go to cheveron
