I'm pretty sure that the "Master Cylinder" controls your brakes (makes you go stop). As the "Slave Cylinder" controls the clutch (makes you go go).

Go joshers! Go joshers! Dance little man, dance!! ahahhaha :joshers:

clutch master cylinder helps you actually put the clutch into gear...it's the part that senses the pressure from ur clutch pedal and transfers that to the slave cylinder

there is a master cyl for both, brakes and clutch. the clutch being the smaller of the two on the fire wall and of course directly in line with clutch pedal, it depends though, you might have a slave cyl problem on the side of tranny, depends if your getting fluid through master and to slave to determine which is bad, it is an easy fix for do it your selfers either way, the only issue is bleeding air out of it(i'm sure you can find all info in a search) but i believe your looking at aprox. 100.00(parts) or so for either and if paying someone to do it, look for aprox 1 hr labor of anywhere from 50.00 to 100.00 per hr, parts are widely available at parts stores which might save you in mark up if buying from a mech.

Ok well I have an appt. at a place to be fixed for the master cylinder or slave or both! I would just get the parts myself cause my boyfriends sis works at Napa.. But the thing is I'd be mad if that wasnt the problem then I just gotta pay more money for when it is something else ! Oh I hate deciding on things like this

Oh yea he's charging me

111.20 for Master cylinder
70.00 for Slave
120.00 for labor

so I checked the fluid for my clutch it was gone completly so I filled it up with some brake fluid and hmm my car shifts fine now..then i looked below where the clutch and brake and gas pettle is theres is a LITTLE leakage on the clutch on the metal rod... hmm Im wondering if that was the problem the whole time no fluid and not even take the car in to get fixed?????

Any suggestions

If there is a leakage it will only get worse. I went through the same thing, you can continue to top up the fluid but the leak will get worse. You should have your clutch master cylinder replaced and you will likely need your slave done as well. You can dirve with it leaking as is for a little while (assuming you keep the fluid topped up) but I wouldn't expect to drive that way forever maybe a month or two.
