Default Car won't accelerate past 5000 rmp...

I have a 00 GS-R with about 58,000 miles on it. Today when I was driving, I tried to accelerate, and as soon as I hit 5,000 rpm (VTEC engagement) my check engine light came on and I cannot get passed 5,000 rpm. Drivablility under 5,000 is normal, but I cannot go above. Last month I advanced my timing a bit and adjusted my valve lash, so I don't know if that may have something to do with it. Please help !!!!

Sounds like your teg has gone into limp mode.... obviously VTEC won't kick in, some possible things could be low oil pressure, or engine hasn't warmed up yet

That happens to mine when the motor is too cold.

I would definitely check the code and see what it's telling you. Low oil pressure could be the problem, even a bad VTEC solenoid if this is a constant. Have you ever been able to go into VTEC lately?

Yeap, the oil is cold and hasn't had the chance to circulate to all vital moving parts. The check engine light is probably a different issue altogether though.

Finally got around to checking it out, and my oil level was pretty low. Filled it back up and everything is ok. The CEL code was 22, and as soon as I reset the computer it stay off.

How low? Are you leaking it, or burning it ... ? You should check that out so this doesn't happen over and over...

22 is a VTEC solonoid switch malfunction, and is usually caused by low oil leverl, as in your case.
