The amount of misinformation and oversimplification in this thread is staggering. :eek4:

1) An LS-VTEC - to be reliable - takes a hell of a lot more than just a head swap.
2) An B18B1 is no stronger than a B18C* when it comes to boost. In fact, the higher static compression of a B18C* makes boosting a stock block a sensitive issue.
3) The acronym is spelled VTEC. Not with five Ks, nor with an H at the end. VTEC.
4) I'd like to see someone with the Crower 620404 cams in their B18B pass CA smog.

If you want low end power with a relatively small displacement 4-cyl motor, only two things will get you meaningful gains.

Boost and additional displacement.

When it comes to drivetrain improvements, reliable power costs real money.
It all comes down to how fast you want to be, how much money you want to spend, and how reliable you want the motor to be.

The old maxim still rings true..."Fast, Cheap, Reliable. Pick 2. You can't have all three."
