the rx7 weighs about the same as the skunk2

Other than looks, I don't think there's any real reason to not use the 3rg Gen stock shiftknob. It's actually really comfortable and isn't affected by temperature.

I dont like the FEEL the stock knob has to it. I recently purchased an ITR rip thats weighted. Ebay for like 30.00 bucks. Looks sexy, gunmetal.. Carbon Fiber insert on top with the ITR logo.
