Default AEM Air Intake

Installing an AEM air intake in 1994 LS. Dry fitting resulted in a not so perfect install, looks like I'll have to shorten two hoses and get past the AC lines. Anyone else come up with this problem?Any tips welcome. Am trying to squeeze out 25hp and AEM is my first mod. Tips on getting 25+HP(smog legal) are also welcome.

i didn't have any problems with mine but i also have a GSR... and after the intake, i think you will have about 22 more hp to go. I/H/E/Cat might get you about 10-12 max.

If you do an Intake, header, full catback, high flo cat you'll come to around that much hp. You won't see it at the wheels though.

I used to own an LS myself, as did TriDawg (we're from the same town). If you're serious about performance, I'd try and get into GSR. I'm not sure of your situation though, so here goes:

AEM Cold Air
Comptech header
Carsound High Flow Cat
Apexi World Sport (quiet, inexpensive) or Comptech Catback (pricier, noisier)

That'd be a great start. If you're concerned with smog legal, you're going to pay more for brand name parts. Getting parts CARB certified costs the companies money, so you'll be paying a bit more.

The AEM intake should come with 2 replacement hoses so you shouldn't have to shorten anything. I didn't. Did you buy it used?
I did however end up having a little rubbing between the intake and the frame, but I put a little piece of foam in there and it works fine. It sounds great and looks cool.

Just to emphasize: an intake is NOT going to give you 25 horsepower. You should kick whoever told you that in the balls.

I think he meant he's trying to get 25hp overall. He just happens to have started w/ the AEM.

Ah, true. I misread. I would suggest the typical plan:

intake
header
hi-flow cat
exhaust
cams
adjustable cam gears
fuel computer (i.e. A'PEXi S-AFC or the like)

The stock ignition is pretty decent actually. Unless you really like the look of having a shiny red MSD box under the hood I wouldn't bother. There are cars out there putting 220 hp to the wheel (i.e. somewhere around 240-250 at the crank) on the stock ignition.

ok...I forgot to tell you guys that my Integ is an automatic, not by choice now but because wife can't drive a manual tranny. I've had a 5speed most of my life until basically I got married. so...I know getting more pony's is gonna be severely hampered since it's an automatic. anyone here have a modded automatic?
