Default Starter question

Ok here is the situation. My car wont start. I'm pretty sure it's not the battery, because the radio and headlights and everything electrical is working perfectly. I turn the key and all I hear is a clicking noise...the car isn't even turning over. I'm pretty sure its the starter/starter cylinoid. I eventually had to get my dad to push the car while it was in gear then pop the clutch. It got the engine started...but I need to make sure I know what I need to replace before I go get ripped off at a shop somewhere. Does anyone have any experience with this?

ANY sugestions or info is greatly appreciated!

Could be the battery is old and just not enough to crank the car but works everything else. Thats what I went through a few months ago on my friends truck. Replaced the battery it started right up. Have it tested might be the answer.

I had to replace my starter a couple of months ago. If your radio and lights are still working, that does sound like the starter.

You have a couple of options. Most of the time when a starter goes south, its just the contacts inside that are busted. I had a shop replace those contacts for $39, and my car now starts like a dream. You can buy a new starter, but that runs about $150. It's not too hard to replace the starter yourself, but you do need to remove the stock air intake to get to it. I have a CAI, and it was kind of a ***** to get to without taking that off, but I eventually managed.

a single click would indicate its the starter
constant clicking is the battery
why dont you test the battery voltage/amps and starter amps

its one single click every time I turn the key.

I'm 99% positive that its not the battery.

if its your battery then its dying due to a bad alternator. take the car to a shop or even certain auto part stores, they can run a charging system check and tell you what the problem is.
good luck

jump the car or pop the clutch, just get it running. take the negative battery cable off the battery with the car running, if the car dies then its your alternator, if not then its not. Other then that you might want to check your ignition switch.
