idle problems with my b20 integra
alright so recently, about 3 weeks ago, i swapped a b20b into my teg. Car runs smooth in motion love the torque and what have you, but there is one slight problem. When idling, it idles a little hard, and "puts" every now and then. it doesnt try to die and like i said revs and runs fine when in motion, but this "putting" and harder idle is getting annoying. I have adjusted the idle screw and what have you many times to try and see if i can get a correct idle. it Idles at around 750/800 rpm. so its stationary from what i cantell i just dont get this "putting." I have many people told me that it is the IACV probably needing to be cleaned out.
I was concerned it may be the timing but it doesnt seem to mis fire or anythign of that nature and seems like it runs fine. I have searched this forum for something that looks to be happening to mine and i found a few threads but i wanted to make one of my own to explain my problem, i just want to get to the bottom of this. i am goign to clean it out this week and hope for the best.

If it was your timing you would feel lost of power when driving and it will be putting all the time. Your hoses might have an air leak somewhere. Check all your hoses coming from your canister make sure they dont have any hoes. Also check that your spark plugs wires are in right and check your pvc hose also. You need to troubleshoot all these areas to try to find the problem. Ive delt with this problem before and its a Bicth. Good luck
Not wise to mess with the idle screw in most cases, after you clean the IACV (or before) you need to make sure it's at, or at least close to, the correct base idle. With the IACV disconnected (but on the manifold) and the engine up to temp. you need to adjust the idle screw so it's at the correct base idle for that engine (whatever that is). Then, after hooking the IACV back up, reset the ECU.
i have done it correctly checking, dis connecting the iacv, leting it drop down to like 5 hundred or something and then adjusting the screw. the idle stays stationary at between 750-8. but it still does the putting. the b20 is supposed to idle at 750 +-50. and it has been. after the first few days that i got the engine put in, i changed out the spark plugs and it worked fine for about a day or two and then it started doing it again. everyone keeps telling me that its teh iacv. i hear no vaccum leaks, i have been told i would have heard it.
For vaccum leaks just check the pvc valve and any other hoses that are breathers or vaccums. You could somtimes hear air coming out. And with the throttle body you can take out the filter pipe and look inside to see if the throttle blade is closed. I sugguest taking it out and cleaning it with break cleaner inside that might help. But if you said that you changed the spark plug wires and it worked for a couple of day it might be a distrubitor problem. You can take out a spark plug wire while the car is running and check if there is electricity going thru (be very carefull you might get shock if your not).
