01 GSR question ................audio
Sup,
I have a 2001 integra gsr and i want to put in a sony xplode head unit. the lil problem is that i want to take out the orginal unit carefully. Does anyone know the best way to take the GSR's out? also i'm looking at the sony head unit right now and there is a connection in the back with a whole lot of wires sticking out. I think i have to fit the wires in to a universal connection peice then it would be able to fit the acura's set up,right
:dunno:?
If anyone understands what i'm saying please help!
thanks
Dont worry i already posted this under car audio.

To get to the headunit, you have to take out your entire center console if you want to do it right. You will also have to get wire harnesses if you want the wires to go right into your new unit, along with a dash kit to make it fit right.
do it right
take off your armrest
then take off the center shifter part
then when you take that part off you have access to the rear of hte deck which you can push out
also go to best buy or good guys or somewhere and get a wiring harness so that you can plug your new HU up to the factory wiring using the harness
to get toe the deck is not that hard takes like 10 minutes

Not sure if any of you guys actually installed your own head unit. But in my 97 gsr it was hard. First take off the shifter plastic and armrest as stated before. Look all the way in the back there are 2 screws that are tucked away in the back that holds the deck in place. They were hard to get too but after some gushing blood it came out. There might be another way to get it out however. There is a site that I found a while back that showed step by step. I typed in integra audio or something at www.google.com. I would give you the eact site however I am work and I only have permission to be on HONDA ACURA.net.
Also on the harness like mentioned before it is a good idea to buy a harness from, like walmart or discount auto for about 9 dollars. it should hook right up to your orginial harness. On the new harness blue= remote orange= mem red= constant power. If you hook up the right colors and the stations keep erasing then swap orange with red. I have had this problem with a few imports.
As for the dash kits. I have yet to buy one of them for a honda. If it is the same size as the stock tape deck it should fit fine. Use the 2 hooks that is on the pocket and attatch it to the deck. then just cramit it in there hoping that you pulled out the tabs on the metal basket that holds the deck in place.
