Default B18b1 Engine horsepower

I have a 97 Acura integra gs engine:b18b1. I already have an AEM air intake im pretty sure it's a short ram. Im trying to find some things i could do to it to get more horsepower but you must know i have a thin wallet at the moment.

welcome to the boards - please look through our FAQ section - some good stuff there.

the b18b1 is a great engine - however, to have it make some decent hp, its not going to take a thin wallet.

cheap, fast, reliable - you can only have two.

LOL i was thinking for a sec about spec r's post, cheap, fast, reliable...its true, you can have cheap and fast but it will suck later, fast and reliable isnt cheap, cheap and reliable not fast, haha best post ever! unless you do a ls vtec or a gsr swap going to be hard to push that engine harder than it is supposed to without running into problems, ls vtec is tricky but if done right can be great

believe me, i speak for a good chunk of the members on this board (check the basement) used to have integras which were all stock at one point, and went through various stages of modification.

my first integra, i started off bone stock. i dabbled with bolt-ons, stereo, suspension and wheels - when i sold the car, the suspension was semi-stock, the stereo wasnt even in the car, all that was left was the turbo. all those years spending money on the stereo/suspension setups could have otherwise went to the turbo earlier in the car's life.

if you have SOME spending money, tell us your budget.

i highly recommend the first mod being a transmission swap. GSR transmission with a B18B1 is a nice combo, and big personality change for the demeanor of the engine.

Intake header and exhaust is the basics. Cams are great.. but can run any where from $300 to $800 for a good set. I'd say the single best thing with a small amount of money is getting your car tuned. A good street and dyno tune is going to bring the most out of your engine. My friend tuned my other friend's LS and picked up 22whp and he said the car felt totally different, and it pulled all throughout the RPM range.

Tell us what your budget is and we can best help you.

Yeah, definately if you can work on your suspension also. So, if you put a GSR tranny on a B18B. At 80 what would your tach be at in 5 th gear. I know my tach is at 4K @80 in my GSR.
Post as you build your ride.
