Default Higher compression/Tune?

Ok, so I want to put my B18B1 block in my car for this race season to get any gains I can. I have rebuilt the bottom end with the P73 pistons. With the higher compression would I need to get it tuned or would I be safe running it for 8 months or so?

Right now everything is stock head and block. I just wanted to swap the blocks out for the higher compression ratio.

With the smaller change, you will be ok. You won't really need a tune unless you swap for some higher flowing cams.

so you're basically running a stock B18B with a little higher compression? just dont run 87 octane thats all.

I've seen many a guy that run 11.5 : 1 on 91 pump gas without any problems. What really matters is the dynamic compression required on the engine specs.

It all depends on the tune, and timing.

Yea, with just changing the compression a little, the onlyt thing that you might have to change is the timing or maybe use mid grade gas. You wouldn't have to get a tune unless you start changing cams and such.

Why more compression? If you want to get more power just go for more cam.

Well I was taking A lower engine machining class. I needed some pistons, Rods, And a crank. Cams would be with the head work, Going to take an upper engines class next fall. I wanted to know if I could race on it this season or if I would have to wait till next year and do the full lsvtec setup. Don't have the money now to do any tuning.

Well I just got my car all up and running today. Ran into a couple problems along the way. First thing I ran into was when I tried to put the head on my new block. As I was torquing down my last head bolt, It pulled the threads out. After repairing that and installing the engine, I went to start it up. Come to find that the PCV system was changed from 95 to 96. I had plugged the hole in the back of the block and started the engine. Oil shot out all over the back side of my engine bay. So I installed the breather box and started it again. It wasn't running right. I took it to the school and had them run through it and try to find out what was wrong. They couldn't find anything. Turns out I was off by just one tooth on the cam timing. Fixed it and now I'm breaking it in. First race in it is on the 9th.

Old 1/4 mile avg. 15.9
fastest w/tail wind 15.7

We'll see what it runs when I get to the track.
