Default finding out if engine is original???

I posted this in the engine/tech section but i dont know which forum gets more traffic so

how can you tell if you have the original engine in your car?

do the vin on the car and engine match up?
Cause im having issues with the fitting of some 96 parts in my 96 gsr. i don't know if its just the company im getting it form trying to save on money or what, but ..

Adam...the VIN for both should be the same.

what if you have a 95,then how do you tell?

I believe all engines have the VIN stamped on them...you just compare that to the one under your windshield in the driver's side corner.
