Default taking stock cat back off

A couple a buddies of mine took there stock cat backs off of there car, now i thought this wouldnt harm the car in anyway but another buddie of mine told me it can "burn up ur valves", now just for future reference i wanted to know for myself so i can find out if its worth doing. By the way it sounds bad ass when vtec kicks in.. alittle LOUD though.. too loud. Anyway, so is it harmful to the car in anyway. incase im explaining this wrong or whatever, im talking about... right after there catilitic convertor.. they have nothing.. they left the stock muffler for looks tho, for cops i suppose but nothing is connected to the muffler of course. so is it harmful in anyway ?

buddie number 1 - 00 Civic Si, bone stock
buddie number 2 - 97 maxima, intake

yea, that is 1 sucky thing about doing it. You have to keep your sun/moon roof open all the time or at least a window. Because of the exhaust. So you say the performance would not be ideal meaning... no gains? For sure it is too loud, sounds bad a$$ though. thanks for the help!

You would lose a great deal of what little low end torque you have. I can't imagine it hurting the motor though

I'm not for sure that it will burn up your valves but i know this is that it sure will in an american made motor cause my cousin did this and about a month later it wouldn't run because of the screwed up valves

Wait so let me understand this? Your friends are running straight header with their catalytic converters on it around town???? haha or am I just reading this all wrong. If I'm not then my question is how are they avoiding the cops?!? My friend has a civic hatch with a b18c1 in it and he decided to run straight header at the drag strip and man did it sound loud is all I gotta say. I don't know if he noticed any performance gains though.

No, taking off the cat will not burn your valves. Pretty dumb conclusion to whomever thought of that.

And no, taking off the cat will only yield substantial gains to your car if it is heavily modified. In this case, your friends won't gain much out of what they have.
