Default Gutted Cat

From the sound I can pretty much figure out what it is but how do you go about doing it and why? I assume you would no longer meet smog regulations. Is this also correct???
Thanks

Why would you wanna do it? You'll just end up sounding like a jackass. The car will be VERY buzzy, you won't pass smog, and your cat will be hosed. Just go buy a high flow cat. Same results, still sounds normal. And to be honest, with only bolt ons you won't gain much, if anything at all.

you may actually loose power because of the turbulence caused by gutting the cat.

Why would someone do it? To remove a bottleneck in the exhaust system. As to how I have no clue.

The stock cat doesn't pose much of a restriction. If your cat is old and has a lot of miles on it though, all the trapped smog particles do eventually slow things down. It's like a sponge, it can only suck up so much before it fills up.

As long as your car is over 5 years or 50,000 miles you can legally replace the cat with a "high flow" unit from companies like Carsound, Landspeed Racing or Random Technology.

Dunno about California. I do know that if you're past 5 yr/50,000 miles in most places you can replace the cat for an aftermarket one.

For Cali, if the heat shields are still in place there's no way to tell from a visual inspection that anything is different. So if it still passes the emissions test it's all good.
