Default Funny Noise Coming from my b18c

I got a JDM b18c with about 15000 miles on it and some funny noise is coming from the motor.
Symptoms -
It is a sort of whirring, squeaking sound and only makes the noise after is has been warmed up and driven for a while. at first, i would only do it when my revs woud drop, like at an idle or something. so i would rev it a touch, it would go away till the revs dropped, and then come right back. Since then it has gotten worse. Now it whirs all the time up to and through 3 grand.

Where it is coming from -
It "sounds" like it is coming from the drivers side of the motor. Almost like it is coming out of the cam gears. It almost sounds like a worn bearing noise. I listened to both sides of the cam shafts with a stethescope and seems to sound alright and i the same on both sides. I dont have p/s or ac so i know it isnt those.

Why??
I did install cam gears and the noise didnt start till afterwards. also, i bought the cam gears used and one of the 6 bolts on it stripped and currently is on. An old p/s hose moved over and some of it got worn awy by touching the timing belt. The very edge of the timing belt got a little wear and I will be replacing it within the next 2 weeks. Also the timing belt doesn't seem to hold tension on the front side of the motor very well. I tighten it and soon after it flaps a little at idle.

Overall, the motor still seems real strong, but there is just this damn noise. If anyone has any help, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks a lot

the noise almost sounds like it coming from the cam gears. and no, my car is left-hand drive. i am starting to think it might be the water pump.

i would change that timing belt TODAY..dont wanna mess with that on our cars. im not sure what your problem is but heres the obvious: are the cam gears tight? did the bolts move the gear at all?

You said one of the cam gear bolts is stripped, but it's still on? How were you able to mess with the settings?

But yeah, listen to these guys. Replace the timing belt and let us know how it goes...hopefully that'll solve your problem.

Sounds like your timing belt is too tight. It will whirr/whine like you describe if it is too tight. Try retensioning the belt.

Thanks for the reply. But whenever i tighten it, it seems to loosen up real fast. My belt seems to get a lot of slack on the front side of the engine (where it is going down) after i tighten it. Could my tensioner spring be bad??? Thanks

Tensioner spring could very well be bad, this just happened on a friend's GSR after a head swap.

I had the same exact noise in my '94 Del Sol.... it was the timing belt tension. Replaced it, noise went away instantly.
