My car is stock.

the first things i'd check is the cv axle boots since they're
usually making the noises when you're turning (and plus
they are the easiest to spot!). i just had this problem recently
and took off both of my front wheels and checked the cv boots,
and yup.. . it was worn n torn, n all that grease came outta
it from driver's side cv axle boot(drying up..) this could be it but will
hafta stop by the shop today n let them replace it and also find
out what that noise is.

just in a thought..could be what shoofly posted, might need to
just grease that rubber thingy up in the steering column!

How old is your car? If it's pretty old, it may very likely be your bushings.
