Default How much oil?

Hey guys,

Maybe its just me, but when i change my oil, and put in the full 4 litres, dipstick tells me theres more than 4 litres in there. Not sure what happens but i thought it was slowing me down. Tried putting exactly 4 (2nd hole on dipstick), just shy of the full 4 liters from the jug (that new mobil1 stuff). Now it seems to be running much smoother than before. Does this make sense?

thanks,

liter is slightly bigger than a quart, no?

my integra calls for 4 quarts, which is about 3.78 liters. i dunno if there's a difference between US and canadian spec.

Is there a difference in performance if u fill past the second hole on the dipstick tho? More oil good or bad?

I normally dump an entire 4L jug in there each time, ends up a little higher than the hole. Just stopped that recently.

BTW.... Mobil1 synthetic kicks some serious ass

I think that if you fill it too much, i dont know the exact point at which this occurs, but your crankshaft will be too far down in the in the oil when it rotates. Although oil splashing on the crank is normal, if its submerged quite a bit it will cause the anti-foaming agents in the oil to break down quicker, it may also cause the oil to have air pockets which can then enter your system.

The filter will soak up a little, but you don't want to over fill. The crank stickin too deep in the bottom is bad on a lot of levels.

I know you're a cannuck and all, but you are supposed to put in 4.2 QUARTS. Not litre's, so you're overfilling your shiat, boyeeee.

You don't want to over fill your oil, that's bad.It screws up your compression.Use you owner's manual as a guide and go from there.Take your time when you do an oil change so that you can check the dipstick as you gradually add more oil.More oil is no good and too little is no good either,so find the happy medium and you should be fine.
