Default valve cover?

is it true that if you have a cut valve cover you wont pass the visual inspection of the smog test?

Depends on what state you're in.

My guess is that it's illegal in california but you'll just have find a shop you can pay off.

Forget paying them off....find a cheap used torn up VC for $50, pop it on for the test, take it off, strip it, polish/paint it and sell it.

The cut for the CAM GEARS? is that what you guys are talking about? ANd if so how does that affect the smog test?

It doesn't affect emissions.

Just to add to that; in CA while most hi-flow cats will pass emissions, it is illegal to change out your stock catalytic converter for anything but a stock replacement.
