I have to get new tires for my 1993 Acura Integra RS. I live on the northcoast of California where we have a lot of rain. I'm fairly law abiding however safety is important. Also not all of our roads are good ones.

What do you suggest?

 

These are the tires I've used in stock size:

Yokohama AVS Intermediate: stiff sidewall, short life, fun, not for snow
Dunlop A2 Sport (all season): mushy, cheap, longer life, good in snow

 

I'm running on the Dunlop SP Sport A2s right now. Basically everything g2tegls said about them is true. If you aren't doing any agressive driving I would go with these

 

I just got the SP Sport A2's also and they seem to be very good in rain (especially for the price). Doesn't sound like you are concerned about it, but the snow traction is pretty good also. Don't know how they respond to hard driving in warmer weather, as I just got them a few weeks ago, and it has been cold here in Milwaukee, but everything I have read mimics what has already been stated. Sounds like you have to decide how aggressive you want to be, but for the $$, these seem to be a solid "daily driver" tire, with a little bit of spirit.

 

I'm assuming you want to get tires in the stock size, which is 195/60-14. This leaves your options somewhat limited. In that size I would get a set of Yokohama AVS ES100. They're an "ultra high performance" tire with relatively good treadwear and good wet traction.

most other tires, just plain suck!

 

Nitto NT450s are horrible and Kumho 712s are marginal, neither one is that special.

 

Kuhmo 712's are GREAT rain tires. Anyone who tells you otherwise is an idiot!

 

Allow me to add a footnote to my "marginal" remark. They are marginal in terms of dry traction.

 

Between the Yokohama AVS ES100 and the Dunlop A2 Sport, which is quieter on the road? And, yes, I want to keep the size stock.
