Default What Size Exhaust?

Hey Guys,

Kind of new to this forum and DEFINITELY new to the B-series engines. My question has to deal with exhaust size piping. I am putting in an LS/Vtec swap into my 3rd gen Accord (see sig).

My engine set up:
B18A1 Bottom End w/ Z10 Block Girdle
Shotpeend LS Rods
Arias 11:1 pistons
B16A1 Vtec head
CTR Intake Cam
ITR Exhaust Cam
ITR Valve Springs and Retainers
B16A1 Intake Manifold
B16A1 Ported Throttle Body

with my current A20A3 engine I have the usual 2.25" cat back piping. With this new set up should I keep the 2.25" or upgrade to a 2.5".

Sorry if this is a repeative question for you guys

I'd try and go with a full 2.5" system up to the collector of the header. In reality having a 2.25" collector isn't that much of a restriction as long as the remainder of the system is 2.5". If you haven't got a header yet I would go for one with a 2.5" collector, otherwise use what ya got and step up to 2.5" cat and pipes.

Oh and this is just my curiousity, what kind of effort does it take to get a B-series into that generation of Accord? I know the B20A5 and B21A1 were in the Preludes of similar age but I believe the mounts are different.

Thanks for the info on the exhaust. I was planning on running a DC 4-1 header.

As far as the swap, the effort is minimal, it all bolts on with the use of the Place Racing kit. Place Racing makes a whole swap kit for it, but it can get rather pricey. So what I am doing is using their mounts, G2 Integra Axles, stay OBD-0 and add the neccessary wires. I want to use as little of their stuff as possible because they are expensive.

You are right, the Prelude B20A5 and B21A1 are completely different. Many problems if you want to put one in a 3g accord.

If you're going with DC, I would reccomend a "JDM" 4-1. It's supposed to go on the '98-up JDM ITR and thus has a 2.5" collector to match the stock 2.5" exhaust on that particular car. If you already have the regular 4-1 by all means use it and just roll with a 2.5" cat (flanged to mate to the 2.25" collector) and 2.5" pipes.

unless you plan on building up even more or going turbo, I say you stick with 2.25. If you want a system to grow into, go 2.5.

On a side note, a friend of mine put a 3" turbo blitz exhaust on his STOCK gsr. The sound was amazing, but unfortunately you could hear it from about a mile away (literally).
