Default Bad CV Boot/Axle?

So this past winter, something started knocking when I made turns. I'm pretty sure it's because of torn boot and something wrong with the axle. Since spring is coming along, i should be able to get on it and fix it soon. However, I was just wondering, since it's been a few months driving with bad boot and the knocking, how severe are damages and/or what are the dangers of continuing on driving it under those conditions?

Any input is greatly appreciated!! Thanks!

The torn boot caused all of the grease in the joint to drip out and thus causing premature wear on the CV joint. That's what you're hearing when you're turning.
You just need to replace the axle, go to auto zone or something and grab a reman'd axle.
If you drive on it continuously while the joint is like that it will just become really noisy and probably eventually bind up and the wheel on that side won't rotate or turn.

B careful what u buy!!! I bought remanufactured axels from Kragen's and they clicked just as bad as the old ones!!! Spend the money and get the new ones. I got them to upgrade me for free after 3 sets and there alright. No clicking but I still dont know if im satisfied. Loosen ur axel nut before u tear it all apart. take ur wheel off, pop out the center cap put ur wheel back on and let the jack down some and loosen. I accept daughters for saving stress!!

That doesn't mean much when the bad axles are replaced with another set of bad axles

Autozone axles are a hit or miss. I have had terrible luck with their axles, so you won't see me recommending them to anyone.

I see, the reason I'm recommending them is because I've had nothing but good luck with them in mine and my customer's cars. :dunno: I guess the warranty makes me wet.

www.raxles.com might be another place for you to look into if you havent taken care of that problem yet.. or any others who are looking to get axles and not wanting to go and get them from autozone or other auto stores. I got both axles done with no problems!

Would you reccomend this as a DIY project?
On a scale of 1-10, 4 being a brake job / caliper rebuild how would you rate it?
