leaks all over the passenger side floor boards but the heat still kicks a**. So do I need a new heater core because this is what I think? If so does any1 know where to get good DIY instructions for this job?

 

You most likely do need a new heater core. That happened to my friends Celica, still heated like mad but it leaked everywhere.

No clue about the DIY instructions, he paid like $400.00 to have his done.

what is the color of the fluid on the carpet? have you checked the drainage tube? perhaps it's simply clogged.

 

I haven't seen the color I just noticed tonight but the reason that my attention was drawn to it is because it was making bubbling sounds then I felt the carpet and noticed it was wet. Can I check the drainage tube easily, without taking the dash apart?

well, if it's clear, it's probably just water.. so that could be clogged drainage tube (easy to check.. pull out tube from underneath car, check for clog, reinstall).. if it's green (i.e. anti-freeze), it's probably your heater core.. :/

the tube you want to check is #15 in that diagram. it passes right through the firewall... you can see it go through right below the dash on the passenger side. just follow that to the outside to see where it goes.

if it's clogged, you just need to unclog it and put it back in place, it's that simple. thing is, i'm not entirely sure that it's going to be this tube since normally the overflow caused by the clogged tube only occurs when you're running your a/c, but i figure it's better to check that first before you spend much $$...

also, this diagram is from a 3rd gen, but i assume it's a similar layout on your 2nd gen.
