Default Good Performance Part for $500

I got a 97 GSR, performance wise I got AEM short ram intake and DC Sport 4-1 headers. I have $500 that I was going to spend on an Skunk2 catback exhaust...but after watching YouTube vids etc, Im kinda not liking the idea of having a loud exhaust. So I was wondering what would be a good performace product[s] I could get for around $500.

best bang for your buck is a Catback exhaust

i would go to your local muffler shop and see what they can customise
for you

I have a Magnaflow catback exhaust and i get nothing but complements
on my exhaust

You can pick up an Apex-i WS2 for around 350-400. It is chambered so it is quiet and sounds good when it needs to, otherwise minds it own business and doesn't do any ear raping.

Ya I was looking at the WS2 last night on YouTube and Im liking the sound. I liked the Skunk2... but at low RPMs. I dont really like a loud ass exhaust. Just something louder than stock, but not TOO loud to where its annoying! My GSR is my daily driver so I would hate to get an exhaust that will annoy me everytime I drive it.

sorry, since we're ON the topic already about exhaust I had 2 questions:
1. Does installing a catback exhaust require any welding?
2. I noticed some vids on YouTube mentioning something about a "test pipe." I dont know what that is. Is it something I should know?
thx!

catbacks do not require welding. Test pipe is when they remove the cat and just run a empty pipe there, similar to hollowed out cat or hi-flow cat.

You'd probably feel more of an improvement saving up some money and doing suspension work, imo

http://www.compperformancegroupstore...uct_Code=82011 To do it safe you may get a wide band o2 senser to make sure you are not running lean, high flow/pressure fuel pump and or buster pump, retard your timing a couple of degrees and get a set of colder plugs. It may also be a good idea to get a rpm window switch so it will not kick on in low rpms.

Nitrous is always the best bang for the buck.
