Default How to Tell Which Number is your ITR

I am purchasing an ITR (I finally located one), however I haven't seen it, so I wanted to know how can I tell it is

1) An ITR (I ran carfax and it said so, and the exterior badging says so)

2) Which car # it is (the last four digits of the VIN are 1846, but I was reading that the number of cars produced were 1500 for 2001).

3) I asked the guy to look on the center console to find the badge, but he didn't see one, so did the 2001 exclude that feature or do they get ripped off (which would suck).

Thanks

i dont think the vin # has anything to do with ur car #. look on hte center arm rest, the # should be there. and i know they went a little over the 1500 R's in 01, i know they did in 00.

The center consoles get stolen. The VIN has nothing to do with the numbered badge in on the center armrest. You should check the car over to make sure it is real though. I've seen some people try to pass off regular integras as ITR's.

I talked to the guy, and it seems as though that part was missing, now if Carfax says it is an ITR, is there any chance that they could change the information for a certain VIN number (I am thinking not, but is it possible).

Also is there a way to get the actual number of the car (without having the badge number on the console), and can you get the console badge from the dealer?

Also, do you think it is worth it to buy a 2001 FBP ITR with 13,000 miles on it that is selling for $19,000. The only caveat is that it doesn't have the console badge (the guy said there are three small holes where it used to be), the shifter knob is different (I am sure were the badge went is where the shifter knob went), and the pedals were changed (I don't know if they are better or worse). It is being sold by a wholesaler that picked the car up from a dealer. Also assume everything else is fine on the car.

It is soo hard to determine if the car is worth buying. There is alot of them out there that are damaged by theft and bad driving. I would recommend waiting for the next gen TypeR. The problem with theft alone would keep me away from buying another one.

You could wait 5 years for the next gen Type R and still not find one in NA. As for the number, I remember back in 2000 that a few people were getting theirs from the dealer with the number badge already stolen. Honda was replacing them for free. Honda has some way of looking up what the number was based on the VIN. You might want to talk to someone on a corporate number and find out if they can help.
