Default Exterior Door handle

I'm trying to pull out my exterior door handle and can't. I can't get the acuating rod detached. Is there any special way to get it off. All the haynes manual says it to detach it.

Spray it will penetration oil alot. Use a flat head and pry the rod out. This is a big pain it may break on some of the older cars no way around it its plastic.

Otherwise you could just give it some time, they tend to break by themselves once the actuator starts acting up (dirty/corrosion/no lube).

Heres the deal I got a new door after being hit and want to switch out the old lock into the new door. So if they break can i get new parts, or is it a hole assembly?

Hole assembly but you can brake one just not the other. You can swap lock assembly's but its easiest with the handle out.
