Default Cat issue n question...

Hey everyone,

So I got another lil issue or question for you guys... So i noticed about a week or so ago that my cat was making a very distinct sputtering noise that is actually quite noticeable from even in the driving compartment...since this started happening I've felt a def lack in power and seems my idle is a lil low for a bit on startup and when i first come to a stop...like it wants to drop but then my ecu corrects for it and it gets a lil boost to wherte it should be....I dont have any CEL's....I also noticed that my oil has gone down just a tad since this started

I'm pretty sure my cat is clogged or i got a crak or leak or somehting...i can't se anythign when looking at it visually but then again I don't know

So here was what I was thinking...I was thinking of ordering a cat-back exhaust but Im kinda broke I only got like 300$ to spare and that has to include shipping so im in a tuff spot, so now im thinking about jsut ordering an OBX hi-flow cat

What would you guys recommend and whats your opinion?

-Adam

You can find a universal carsound cat (made by magnaflow) for $100, purchase the necessary flanges, and have a shop weld them on for you to match your old cat. I am running a 2.5" carsound cat right now and it works just fine.

I would stay away from OBX stuff.

Just a question, cause im still kinda new, but is OBX even a brand or is it like a reform company that copies designs and remanu's them? Also if I was to purchase a new cat, i am gonna look at carsound btw, is there a bonuis to one over another,...like can you get a decent performance boost form a high-flow as opposed to a regular OEM....like is it a increase of like 1 hp or is it actually a noiticable increase?

I know once i get a enw one on it'll give ME a boost lol, since im already restricted adn suffering an impedment...

Don't expect much in gains. The OEM cat isn't as restrictive as you think.

I probably picked up a good amount of power because I switched from a 2" downpipe and stock cat to a 2.5" downpipe and 2.5" cat. I didn't notice much besides a louder exhaust note, though.

I have a simalar noise coming from mine and I replaced the Cat after sprung a code. But the noise remained. It does seem slightly less noticiable though.

My teggy did that for about 2 months then me and a friend tore her exhaust out and got rid of the catalysts inside of her cat and got rid of her resonator and she's been running like a champ eva since w/ 2.5 inch from the headers on back!

I can only imagine how terrible that sounds. :tsk:

Hollowing out a stock cat will only cause a power loss, not to mention that 2.5" on a stock motor is way too big.
