Default Calculate socket size...

When your given the bolt size, i.e. 10mmX 1.25, how do
you calculated the size of the socket you need. Is there
a formaula or something?

i'm not sure if i understand your question, but the size of the socket, to be used, is the same as the size of the bolt.

ex 1: 10mm socket is used on a 10mm bolt
ex 2: 17mm socket is used on a 17mm bolt

Yes. 10mm bolt is a 10mm socket.

If you still are conf00sed, put a socket on the pos until it fits.

10x1.25x20 for example means:

10mm head, thats the socket size you use.
1.25 pitch, meaning the "size" of the threads.
And 20mm, meaning the bolt is 20mm long.

Sorry I mean to say nut...

So like a 10mm X 1.25 describes the inside diameter of the
hole and the 1.25 describes the thread( I think) ...

I'm taking off the struts on a civic, the manual it says a 10M X 1.25 lock nut,

But I use a 14mm socket to get it off the bolt. Is there a way
I can calculate this, or is it a trial and error thing?

Well, dude. If the manual says the NUT is a 10mm nut, you will use a 10mm socket on that badboy.

Now, it's entirely possible the manual is talking about the BOLT and not the nut and the nut is a different size.

Either that, or someone fhucked with your shiz before and put the wrong size nut on there. Well, not wrong; just different size.

"Little, 14mm, different".

The manual doesn't give the outside diameter of nuts or bolts. Only the pitch and length.

edit: I don't think there's a formula or anyway to tell the head size based on the info they give. You could have any head size really.

Yeah, the Helms sizes seem to be wrong many times. Either theyre talking about another measurement, or its just wrong.

10xanythingxanything will mean 10mm head.

Okay... thanks.

I just thought there might have been a way to calculate it...
