shift boot adjustment
I have this same problem and was looking for a quick fix, but had not given it much thought. So how exactly did you do this? It sounds like you affixed it to the inside of the shift boot, but I could be wrong and so I am asking for clarification. Thanks!!!
I wrapped electrical tape around the shifter just below the nut for the shift knob, you have to do it so it's just a little bigger than the hole on the top of the boot, then you pull it up and over it

Hard to explain, but if your looking at the boot I'm sure you'll see what I mean.
This is probably easier if you don't have the console removed already.
Well with the center console "loose," I just wrapped a rubber band around the shift lever several times and slid it down pretty far. Then I reached underneath, flipped the top portion of the boot inside out and worked the band onto that. A zip tie would probably be easier though.

I figured I had an idea of what you meant and so I took some rubber bands from work and did it real quick before I left for the house. Turned out I did with the rubberbands what the other guy did w/the electrical tape, and it worked great. Problem solved. I think I might try to sell this on Ebay. I am going to call it the Saggy Shift Boot Rejuvenatory Kit. $1.00w/instructions plus $5.00 shipping.
I was pleasantly surprised with how well the electrical tape worked, glad it worked for you.
