Default S3, and S4 Question

I read, on here or on Hondahookup the purpose of this button/gear on the auto tranny. I read what it does, it holds the gear under 75% acceleration +, But.. What is the purpose of this function? I mean, my friend was like " Shoot, that means you can race it " hah, no. what is it really intended for ? is it a tow gear ? How reliable is it, and does it have any gains or drawbacks ?

If anyone is going to assume.. I have a 92 RS teg despite the name (it was an oops) I am not looking to change to manual. I want auto, I do not plan on racing, so plz no comments on how much auto sucks.. I just want to know what this shift thing is..

On civics they have D3 and D4. D4 is like normal auto it will shift from 1-4 no proplem. D3 locks out fourth gear so you no longer shift to it.

I hope that helps.

I believe in that order..

what is its function or purpose is what I want to know. I mean I am not using it to race or anything, Just wondering if it is just for fun, or if it has a significant purpose..

It just takes the car out of overdrive and shifts later to give you some more power to pass.
