GSR Rebuild Suggestions
I have a 94 GSR I am rebuilding. I am getting the bottom end machined and rebuilt (decked, bored, mains, crank balanced, rings, seals, yadda yadda) and getting type r pistons. Also adding an exedy clutch and xact flywheel.
I use the car mostly for around town and would like to keep it NA. I was considering going to a jdm type r head with skunk2 cam gears and intake manifold.
Am I better off rebuilding my GSR head, or is there a better option out there for me? Any help is appreciated, thanks.

rebuild your gsr head. depending on how much power you want to make and how much you want to spend, you can have it ported or just a simple valve job. bigger cams and stiffer springs. better header and intake manifold. the possibilities are endless.
it is said that the p72 head design is more advanced than the b16 casting used in type r applications. I would use the gsr head and most likely stick with the dual stage manifold. It is said that the dual stage (with its eight openings) can flow more air than a single stage one. Prob. not more than some but he said he wants it streetable for around town crusing, not pure drag. They sure say alot don't they
So, if rebuilding is the way to go what do you suggest in the way of cams, gears, springs, and retainers? Anything else you would suggest upgrading? Thanks.
Also, I will need to get this tuned, do I need to buy anything to get the ecu work done, or can I just take it to a shop and have it done?

lucky for you you own a obd-1 equipped car so tuning is going to be relatively easy. You could build your head with a good setup like ctr cams, itr valve springs & retainers, mabye titanium valves (if your ballin'), some cam gears and have a tuning company build you a chip for it or you could use a program to tune like crome or hondata. note that if you don't know how to use such software then you'll have to shell out additional dough for some shop to do it. choice is yours

if you do end up tuning with hondata, Kingmotorsports already has a socketed p28 ecu for $325. they socket the ecu for hondata S200 or the
S300 your choice and $375 for the p28 ecu socketed S300 with boost option.
