Default Help all I hear is squeeeeek

I just had coilovers put on my 90 hatch, and every little bump I hit makes the car squeek. Any ideas how to cure this?

If the car is absolutely slammed to the ground, I'll bet you're hearing the coils bind and rub against one another.

Do two things:
1) Raise the car a 1/4" or so.
2) Use 3/8" diameter rubber hose... split it down the middle and wrap the coils at the top of each spring.

Obviously, you'll have to jack the car up so the suspension is completely unloaded for these steps. Be sure to use jackstands.

Welcome to the board.

The car's not slammed completely to the ground. I have a little less than an inch of adjustment all the way around left. I'm going to try the hose though. Thanks:thumbup:

:dunno: Used the hose on the springs, and the squeeking defnitly silenced a bit. But now I hear a rub, almost like the spring is comeing unseated, any thoughts??

Is it a grumbling sort of noise.. like the tire rubbing against the wheel well?
Or is it more of a metal-on-metal "clank" ?

It's more of a metal on metal sound. I pulled all the wheels and checked it all out. The front seems to be fine, but the back is a different story. Where the spring and damper base meet, I see fresh metal ware marks, like the spring is getting loose, and slapping it. All the parts are in place, I don't get it. The car drives fine. I only get this on medium bumps and large ones. Sometimes on the interstate it will happen where new pavement meets old.

That's not good. :noes:

But OTOH, how are you getting enough droop travel that the spring leaves the bottom seat?

I mean, you've got to have a substantial about of pre-load on the springs even when the car is jacked up and there is no load on the rear wheels.

Are you using the slip-on coilover sleeves?
If so, which brand?
