The V1 is hands down THE BEST radar you can buy. The difference between the V1 vs. all others? Well, my old one was more of a supermarket detector than anything...

Yeah, it's a wonderful product... It is the only one on the market that can track how many there are and where they are. It's also very very sensitive, which means more warning. That also means more false alarms, but the count/location really help you determine what's a false alarm or not if you use your head. It's also immune to some false alarms that will set off many other brands. Just the other night, I was on a roadtrip with several other cars and their detectors all went nuts with a real strong signal for quite a while. My V1 remained silent, so I told them not to worry about it, and we got through without a problem. I know it was a false alarm because last time I went through that spot, I had a Cobra ESD-9100 and it did exactly the same thing as their detectors did in the exact same spot.

The V1 also has 2 logic modes which go a step further with the false alarm resistance and in some cases can tell if signals are non-threatening. The city mode for the Cobra detector would do no more than silence X band signals unless they were full strength (in which case it would be too late). The V1 is also by far the best for picking up laser. People say that if your laser warning goes off, it's too late, but I've found that to be not true with the V1. 2 nights after I got my V1, the laser warning went off, I hit brakes, it went silent, then it went off again. It turns out that the first warning was when the car in front of me was hit and the second was my car. There was a car hidden in the darkness running a laser trap, and I saw him go after someone when I was on my way back.

It's definately the most advanced detector on the market, but it's not a license to be a jackass either.

I really want one now. Just don't know if I am willing to spend 400 dollars on one. Right now I've got like a 6 year old Passport radar detector. Its very crappy looking and isn't very sensitive so it doesn't pick up anything untill your close. Is the V1 the type where you can hide the actual thing but yet have a little sensor up by a window or something?? I'm just curious. Because I would like it more if it was a clean install too, I wouldn't want some big thing on my dash. Thanks
