Default Tokico Coilovers

wassup peeps,

im in need of a new suspension, and a local shop offered to get me tokico coilovers for a pretty good price. I was wondering if these coilovers were any good? and if anyone knows the spring rates for the springs?

I can't tell you how good those coilovers are or aren't i have no experience with them.. I can tell you that they will prob be better than those sleeve type coilovers over a set of aftermarket struts, because those struts and springs are designed to work with each other so it should yield better results then mix and matching your coilover sleeves and struts..

later..

Well the springs probably won't be too stiff, and Illumina shocks are nice. So for like 800 bucks they're pretty nice.

Thanks for your input guys. I might be buying these coilovers, but i wanted to get some more info before i purchase them. However im just worried about the spring rates because i heard they're too soft, and also the coilovers do not come with a warranty.

My guess is they'd be around 350F/250R. Maybe try to call or email Tokico and see if they can tell you what the rates are.

I wouldn't be worried that they're "too" soft...they should at least be stiffer than stock.

A friend of mine mentioned these to me today, as I have been looking for a spring/shock setup on my GSR ('99). I had originally planned on going with the eibach prokit and KYB AGX's for my car, but he said that the Tokico Coilovers would be quite a bit better.

I've been searching the net, but haven't yet come up with much feedback regarding them. I have seen that the set sells for around $1100-$1200, but he can get them to me for about $850. Does anyone have any info on them or know how they would compare to the afore mentioned eibach/KYB setup. Please keep in mind that the eibach/KYB setup can be had for about $300 cheaper than the Tokico coilovers... so if the Tokico's are marginally better then it may not be worth it.

i would have to say that tokico coilovers are good in quality. i am saying this because i had few contacts that recommended them to me. Although i stayed with ractive i should have taken tokico because they were a little cheaper and better than ractive.

In response to Spy021:

The Tokico coilovers are essentially Illumina shocks that have shortened bodies and threaded spring perches combined with some Tokico springs. Oh, and who the hell told you $1100 for them? They sell for $799 at Options Auto Salon and can probably be found for cheaper.

If you want the adjustable ride height that's one thing, but why not look into standard Illumina shocks and the same Eibach springs as a possible alternative to the AGXs? They're a bit nicer and the price difference above the KYBs isn't that much.

response to MrFatBooty the tokico coilovers just by themselves cost like 270 but if you are talking about the whole setup like shocks coilovers and everything then yeah you got the right price.

The adjustable ride height isn't too big of a concern for me. It might be cool for the first month or so. Another buddy of mine has H&R Sports w/ the Koni yellows, sitting on 17" Enkei's w/ Yoko's on his '98 GSR. There is no gap between the tire and the fender, which I feel is too low - I hope the ProKit isn't as aggressive.

As to the Illumina's being a bit nicer than the AGX's, could you elaborate a little more? If you have the time, your views between the Koni's / AGX's / Illumina's would be much appreciated!

Thanks!
