Default Looking To Move Up

Alright so in August 2005 I bought a 2nd Gen Intgera (1991). Long story short I needed a car real bad and had little cash.

The car ended up being a ton of hassle and up until now I've been able to carpool to work and get along with a shit car. Plus I bummed it a year in between that time to now. :P

OK so now I got my life sorted out a bit, I'm looking to get a 3rd gen, perhaps something like a '96. I'm not looking to go over the 5K mark, but will if the car is worth the price.

Obviously I'm not going to get a Type R (not yet at least ), but I just want a reliable car without being able to buy a new one.

Now my question is, should I sell my current car and try and move up? Or just fix this one and stick it out?

All comments welcomed, thanks.

Well how many miles does your 1991 teg have and what are the problems that you have with it???

If the repairs cost more than the worth of the car I say you should sell it/part it out and get what you can for it and put the money towards something a little more expensive but more reliable. With $5k you can get a decent teg. I assume you're looking for an ls? Manual/AT?

You probably get a decent 96-97 ls for $5k. Of course, just like any pre-owned car you'll probably spend a little money tuning it up (filters,oil,plugs,etc....) After the tune-up given the fact that it's in good condition should last you a long time.

I just changed the engine, I bought it from a local place here that imports them from Japan.

I'm guessing under 50K.

It needs axles, tires, and a bunch of those little things that are annoying and not too bad.

I'd just like a newer kinda car.

I've been looking at some cars, they are looking like they go at around $6000 for one under a 100K miles.

Also, any suggestions on pricing for mine?

Do you like your current Integra? Would you be happy driving it after everything is up to par?

If yes, then keep it. If you plan on modding, your car is just as good as a newer Teg. It's cheaper, and you start out with more cash to spend. In my opinion, Personal Value > Blue Book Value.

If not, sell it and buying something newer. You can easily find something within your price range. As with any used car, take into consideration the possibility of surprise repairs.

As for selling value of your car - I would need to know more about its condition. Body, Interior, Odo. Miles, etc.

I like it, and think it looks nice when it's fixed up. Though I'd rather spend more cash on a 3rd Gen since I plan on using it through college.

I want to try and find one from an older person, and not someone who could have potentially raced the shat out of it.

My car:

I'm not too sure about the miles, I'll have to call the place I bought it from and ask the exact #. I'm sure it's under 50K.

No crashes, no dents or dings on it.

Interior is not great, but not bad in the least. Needs axles or struts. One or the other, not sure.

The car is a very good car, but I just want something that looks a little sexier

EDIT: I've looked at AutoTrader and Craigslist. Any other places I should look at to find one?
