Failed Smog... Help me out
Not black. But there is a relatively high amount of greyish smoke coming out, when in neutral and I rev it and when idling... I really hope this isn't something really bad. However I did change out my ecu today for a OEM virgin ecu, and I noticed the car ran better and the emissions seemed to lessen a bit. Should I go do a "practice smog"?
So I went back today, after switching out my ecu and putting a stock one and it failed again. Not as bad this time. And it actually passed at 25mph but failed 15mph. Most of the results are really close to the limit however. This time the NO was too high at 15 mph. The guy said that the reason now is my cat. Is that all there could be?
NO (PPM)
15 mph
Max: 708
Meas: 812
Thats the only thing that was over the limit... Plz help me out. Thanx

I don't know much about the smog situation, but running pig rich as your car was before you switched ECU's, will cause a malfunctioning Cat Converter.
Your not getting any CEL's right?
You might need to clean off your O2 sensors after installing the Cat, too.

Nope, not throwing any codes. The o2 sensor is not in the cat, its on the header, but yea I will clean it if that would help. I'm also going to replace the cat again. What else could cause this??
Timing is at 16*, says right on the smog report, maybe I should get new plugs, though these only have like 900 miles on them. As far as getting the car heated, I drive 20 miles to the place, so I'd say its hot enough. Do you think changing the cat would do it??

If i were you i'd check the cat again and make sure its oem and clean the o2 sensor for the test!! when you finally get it to pass switch back to your previous set-up!!
