Default Ignition misfire?

I just bought a 96 GSR with JRSC 115k miles. The previous owner said there's a possible misfire....when put in first gear u have to press the clutch all the way down....give it a bit more gas otherwise the motor seems to want to stall. Same thing with Reverse. He said ever since he changed out the distributor/plugs/cap....or watever...i forgot exactly...that's when it happened. He said it used to be alot faster. My question is....should I replace the ignition with MSD and some platinum/iridium spark plugs? It has 9mm plug wires right now. If so...which MSD parts should I replace?
