I have a friend who said if I gave him an intake manifold and throttle body, he could P&P the IM and port match the TB and IM for $50...I'm just wondering how much this would actually help, if at all, and whether it would be worth it in the long run (planning on either a mild NA build or a decent turbo setup...depending on cash available this summer)

My current relevant mods:
B18B1, stock internals/tranny etc
Fidanza 7lbs flywheel, ACT clutch/pp
AEM CAI
4-2-1 header
Carsound high-flow cat
GReddy SP2 cat-back

I can't afford the downtime of my car while he's doing the work, so I'm thinking if I could find the IM and TB for cheap, it would be a pretty good deal.

Also, I can get a Blox IM for $160 shipped...would it be worth the extra money for that one? And how would it compare to a P&P stock IM? I'd have a TB port matched to it either way.

I'm sure somebody here would have an idea as to how much a ported/polished/port matched IM/TB combo would do...

 

dont think much, at most i would say 3-4hp. looking to port my TB aswell this summer, just for the heck of it, i wonder how much i would gain. my mechanic does it for $100.

 

I doubt you will see any positive gain unless you have an aftermarket camshaft & valvetrain combo. Leave it alone until you're engine needs to breath better.
