Default Cannot get exterior door handles off

I'm trying to replace my exterior door handles on my '92 Integra because the springs rusted. There is a vertical rod that connects to the trailing end of the exterior handle that I cannot seem to get loose. Looking at the attached figure, the rod conects into part 27 which seems to be treaded on my replacement handle. How do you get that rod out?

Also any suggestions reattaching the two bolts that hold the handle to the door. The leading one is almost impossible to reach because of the window.

Thanks Much
Integra Owner since year 2 of production

leave peice 27 on there and pull it all out of the handle. if you feel around inback of the peice 27 you will see it comes out the other end, it clips in and out of the handle.

you will need to replace the gromet that goes in there or it will eventually come out and you won't be able to open the doors from the outside.

Default handle removal, getting closer...

Thanks. I was able to see how it attaches by removing it from my "new" handle off a junked car. How do you get to the nylon insert to yank it off of the one on the car door? With the inner pannel off, the nylon insert and door handle are behind the window even with the window up?
