Default whistle after engine shut down...

After I shut down my engine a whislte that ascends in pitch comes from what seems to be around the intake area (the back of the motor anyways). It only lasts a couple seconds and I can't get a certain location on it. Anybody ever experience this?

Do you have an aftermarket air filter and short ram/cold air intake? If so that's what I think is making the whistle sound.

Agreed. It's likely the little bit of vacuum created by the motor as it spins down.

If you don't have an aftermarket intake, you could have a vacuum leak.

I don't have an aftermarket intake. There are no cel codes being tripped, so is it safe to say that the possible vacuum leak is not causing lost performance or harm to the motor?

Does it idle ok or is it high?

Check your intake tubing to make sure that there isn't a crack or leak in it. Have you modified your intake tubing/piping at all - not to be mistaken for intake manifold?

Sorry to revive this..I forgot that I posted it. Everything is completely stock. It whistles after I shut down the engine for a couple seconds. It seems to be coming from the passenger side by the IM. Also, I have been going through oil like a mofo (1.5 qt. mobile 1at 2200k miles)without any smoking issues. I read up on PCV valves and have concluded that it may be contributing to the oil consumption. I pinched the hose from the valve to the IM and there is no ticking. I think it is still the factory valve (100k), so im gonna clean it out. But I'm wondering if a clogged PCV could be causing the whistle? Any opinions?

Was your AC on? Sometimes my AC kindof whistles, but I can hear it all the time, not just at shutdown.

The pcv valve won't continuously tick. When you squeeze the hose it should just click once.

The sound is definately coming from behind the manifold area. I'll check more closely when I get the time.

I cannot hear it click at all. I'm not sure if it's due to the engine noise at idle masking it or if it just doesn't click. The PCV valve is red, so i'm assuming it's the factory one and I will also assume that it should be cleaned or replaced since the motor has 100k on it. BTW, I can just clean it right? No dealerships carry that part in stock and it's 20 bones! I will just try some carb cleaner if it's sticking.

This thread has taken a turn to my oil consumption problem. Well, I took of my PCV valve to check it out. Luckily I have medium sized asian hands and was able to do it with minimal hassle. Anyways, the valve was perfectly clean and functioning properly. After I put it back I did some engine reving to see if my engine smokes. I noticed the first rev I made some black smoke came out and may be leaving tiny black spots on the garage floor. After that first one it didn't seem to smoke at all. I dont know, but i drove 2000 miles in 1 month and lost 1.5 qts. That seems like an awful lot of oil. My 94 accord didn't use any and my old b16 crx didn't either, so it's got me a little concerned.
Oh, the whistle is still there. It almost sounds like it's coming from around the top of the manifold by the fuel rail...definately closer to the throttle body side. I looked at the vacuum lines that I could see and none of them seemed loose or anything. WTF?
