Default Drive shaft rotating and not in gear

Folks,

Needed to change timing belt and decided to do other work while I had car off road; i.e alternator and outer CV joint on driver's side
Well anyway, after I removed drive axle I repaired outer CV joint.
After putting car back together I started it while left side was still raised.
Drive axle was turning without being in gear. I could stop the spin by hand but could feel slight pressure.

Where did I go wrong???????
