Default Need Help with gsr vtec controller

Im new to this forum and first off whats up everybody. ok so i have a problem and any help would be appriciated. ive been coming to this forum for a while to find help with little problems here and there, so ive done the research and cant find anything. i have a 94 gsr. a couple of weeks ago i installed a vtec controller. the problem is that when i smash the throttle, go into vtec which is set at 5500, when i come out of vtec the check engine light comes on. not always. its very random. the weird thing is when i turn the car off and start it again the check engine light isnt on anymore. i dont notice any real serious performance drop except for when the light is on i cant go past 6500 rpm. any help. please

 Welcome to the board.

Once the CEL has tripped, will it remain on until you turn the car off?

If so, grab the code.. come back here and we'll do our best to help.

Here's how you do it.
Ignore the OBD-II code table, it doesn't apply for your model year.

This is the correct (OBD-I) code lookup table.

The color of the plugs hasn't changed.
Follow the links and retrieve the code if you can.

Otherwise, we're reduced to trial-and-error guessing..:run:

ok i found it. my 96 had a data port for a scan tool. this one doesnt. i got one long blink. maybe a bad iat sensor. but why does this prevent me from going above 6500 and only some of the time. do you think sticky secondaries could cause maybe?
