Default MAP Sensor?

I got a 3 code from my CEL. What does "Map Sensor" mean? How do I fix this and how does it effect my car?

The MAP sensor is located on top of the throttle body. Usually that code will cause the engine to run very rough. Either the sensor itself is bad, or the wiring is shorted or open somewhere. I would start with checking the wiring first since that is the cheapest to fix.

A Helms manual would be the best to use to troubleshoot the problem.

Did you do the ECM reset procedure?

The ECM reset procedure consists of turning the ignition off and removing the BACK UP (radio) (7.5A) fuse from the under-hood fuse/relay box for ten seconds. (Note: This procedure triggers the anti theft feature in factory radios and wipes out settings in aftermarket units. You will need the code for the factory radio.)
There are a couple of other ways of doing an ECM reset as well.

I noticed you asked how this code can affect your car. Hard starting, low power and engine stalling are some symptoms of a faulty map sensor. If you haven't noticed any symptoms from CEL 3 then try and reset the ECM.

All rIght, I pulled the fuse off the ECU and checked the wiring on the MAP sensor, I still get a CEL when I turn on the car. What do I do next? Should I try something else or should I just order the MAP Sensor? If so should I order it online or buy direct from honda? I need to get that pesky light to go away before I can even register the car in my name!(smog check)

Is this a good unit to buy? It seems pretty cheap, especialy compared to the more than $300 that kragen is asking for.

Wow, you reset the ECM and posted on the internet in three minutes. You my friend, are fast. By the way, that's a real good price for a new OEM map sensor.

Let's say you purchase a new map sensor, install it on your car and you still get a code 3. Now that would suck because your out about $60 and then you would have to go looking for an open/shorted wire or an ECM.

Edit: I'm glad we got the problem solved. If the code ever returns put that multimeter of yours to work and let me know the voltage on the map sensor wires.
