Default Burning..

newbie question..not to be flamed! This is kinda a general question not really about integras, but I was test driving a 95 gsr, and I noticed a faint burning smell after accellerating out of big stops. It went away fairly quickly but happened almost every time the car came into and out of a stop.

Is this general indication of a specific problem? Possibly a worn clutch? The guy said it had something to do with the brakes not being used often (car was not a daily driver). What do you guys think?

Brakes burn? Yeah, I'd stay away from any car that smells like it's burning when you test drive it. You wouldn't be able to smell the oil burning from inside the car, unless you had a window open, you might catch a slight scent once in a while. My car burns oil. The only time I've ever smelled something burning strongly was when I had an electrical problem. Smoke was actually coming out the air vents. That wasn't good. You would probably be able to smell a clutch burning but it shouldn't be burning unless you are burning it. A worn clutch doesn't smell. A burning clutch does. I've burned my clutch before too. HTH

Could have been the brakes; no, they don't 'burn' but there is an odour when you're on them hard. But, if you were on the car that hard during a test drive, the seller should have kicked your a$$. Don't know... I wasn't there to smell it. Had I smelt it, I could have told ya.
