Default recirc / vent issues; help!

so here's a weird one..

as you guys know, when you turn recirc on (close the outside vent) while the fans are on, you can hear/feel an increase in air pushing into the cabin.

well, while driving, when i close the vent, i can hear the increase of air as usual, then it dies down, then increases again, then dies down again, and repeat indefinitely...

so it sounds like my vent keeps opening and closing itself.

has anyone experienced this before? am i looking at a bad vent door motor or what?

help!

Hmm, that's a really odd problem. I'm not quite sure what it would be if it's not the motor that controls the door. Can it be greased at all?

i'm not certain. i haven't actually looked in there yet. what sucks is, when the car is stopped, it doesn't do it. i suspect once there's any amount of air pushing from the outside, that's when it starts.

vedy strange..

It should naturaly do that periodically especially when it is hot out. It is the compressor kiking back on. When the car is moving, the air is cooled easier because of less heat. When the car is stopped, it has to work harder. The air kinda fluctuates in traffic but at constant higher speeds it should be pretty well the same.

nope :hs:, that's not what's happening. this is not the compressor kicking on and off. this is the vent opening and closing on it's own (at least that's my best guess). it's definitely not normal. also, this started happening within the past year. i've had the car for over 6 years.

Worst case scenario, it's the recirc motor that will need replacing. :hs:
(The motor test procedure is on 21-29, Vol 2 of the Helms Manual. if you need it, I'll transcribe it.) I would first see if the linkage that controls the vent door is binding or has become detatched from the door itself.
