window tinting advice
i got tint professionally installed on my 4 door and it turned out like crap. the installers said tough luck because the stipling along the upper part of the rear window makes it impossible for the tint to tack down properly (of course they didn't mention that before i had it done). anyone have any luck in getting that part to stick down better? i've heated and rubbed down the area in between the dots and after hours of labor, marginally improved it. some parts are sticking allright, but some parts just don't take, leaving a really uneven looking mess along that stipled area...
i had the same problem... go back to your tint shop and tell them to put a strip of black vinyl over it... and it will take care and make it look much better... and it doesn't block your vision from the inside/rearview/outside
it was around $170, i paid less because i was referred from a dealership though (in other words, the acura dealership uses them for their new cars!) guess they don't have that problem with the new ones though because none of the glass has that stipled pattern. do you know the place that did your friends? maybe i can call them and ask them how they got the tint to stick down...
There is a problem with the stiples in the rear and most shops should tell you that, cause if they have been in business long enough they have encountered that issue before. How does all the other windows look? Some shops tint the stiples better than others. That is the defroster material that heats your glass. When installing most tint shops will turn up the defroster full blast until it heats up reall well and that helps them w/making it stick better. Or something like that I was told by the tint shop that did my windows. I'd take it back and ask what they can do to make it look better. It has to have some kind of warranty on it.
yeah lemme go take a pic right now.. it'll be a crappy cell phone pic but you'll get the idea i think....
edit: speaking of tint.... i got a "tinted front side window" ticket last night on the way home.... gah... i hate that law
again sorry about the shitty pic... but my phones camera is acting up right now...
as you can see it gets much tighter in between the defrosting area... and covers a lot more. it doesn't hinder vision in any shape/form so thats nothing to worry about. don't mind the strip in between tint/vinyl... that was my fault. (rained yesterday... little dirty)
