Default vtec issues...

Alright so my '94 gsr has been acting up lately. When I hit vtec, it engages just fine (at 5800 rpm) and then continues on until about 7000 rpm, at which point it seems to cut out. It seems from 7k rpm to 8k that I am just dumping a bunch of excess fuel out of the exhaust but that vtec is not functioning properly. Any ideas?

BTW, I have tried to avoid revving that high lately, due to the fact that obviously something isn't right and I don't feel like having to get a rebuild. h:

Something is taking a shit on you. I would check w/all vtec related things ie: knock sensor, vtec solenoid etc.

First,
Check your oil level. Low oil level = low oil pressure = vtec probs.

If thats is cool, it is probably the selenoid. My car did the same thing. It will slowly get worse. The selenoid is a mechanical part that uses the oil pressure to (in simple terms) push on a plunger which in turn with engine temp and vehicle speed, the computer will engage the vtec. You can also pull off the selenoid and check the oil screen. If it is clogged it can cause the same problems. Simple 3 bolds and a towel to catch some oil drips.

Does the car cut in and out of vtec???
If so, definatley the selenoid.

Or does it just bog down?
