G2 Gsr
I know I have made quite a few topics in the past about what car I want, what upgrade path I should take, etc. Now I have finally figured out that I am going to get a G2 GS-R. I will have $4,000 within the month and another grand 2 or less months after that. I understand that this particular car is hard to find. Will my $4-5K be enough money for one of these rare beauties, or should I save even more? I am looking for one with about 120,000 miles or less, and ideally I want it in a black 2-door HB model. Exactly how rare are these? How long will I be looking would you guess (I live near Atlanta)? I have only seen one on Ebay, and one locally on Autotrader. The one on Autotrader is white, has 90k, and costs $4,500, sold by a dealer. Thanks for all of your help!
depends on where you live, cars are worth more in some places than others so i dont know if you can get one for 4500. i do know that the black 92-93 gsr's were only offered here in canada, whereas the white ones were only offered in the states. the milano red and aztec green you can find on both sides of the borders. hth
I wish the US got black and Canada got the white! J/K, I like both colors, just black a little bit more. The one the dealer is selling sounds like a great price, I just need to go look at it before I buy it.
Any time you buy a car you're going to need substantially more money saved up than the purchase price alone. You have to insure it, you have to pay for parts and repairs, you have to fill up the gas tank, etc. Don't underestimate your expenses.
I bought a car (a '92 GSR btw) for 6 grand while I had about 8 grand in the bank. Take away $1000 for insurance right away, 400 for a set of good tires, assorted repairs that needed to be done, gas, etc and I was carrying about $1000 in credit card balances which quickly multiplied over the months because of interest. I'm a college kid (i.e. limited income) so I eventually had to sell the car to pay off the debt.
Make sure that if you're not getting any sort of loan that you have a good 4 grand in the bank in addition to the money you'll spend on the car itself.

so your saying I have zero dollars saved for the actual car? $4K seems like an awful lot. I understand insurance, title, tags, etc., but that seems like way too much. My last car costed $2500 and that was every penny I had. It worked out fine, the insurance payment was only like $300, because my car was $150/month insurance. I payed for repairs as I went. I always managed to have the right amount of money. In the end the car costed over $1500 in repairs alone not to mention insurance and the multiple emissions tests needed until it finally passed. A GS-R shouldn't be much more than $150/month for a 17 year old, right (I know it depends on the insurance type and all)? 6 grand seems like alot of money for a '92 GSR, did you get it a few years ago? Later.
G2 GS-Rs are great but a little overpriced, imo. People want like $4k for a car with 160k miles? :ugh: I don't think so. If you can find one in great shape with around 120k miles for $4k then go for it. If you have steady income then you shouldn't have too many problems. BTW my insurance is $127/mo (liability only
) and i have a 1990 LS. Lotsa speeding tickets kinda
h:. But no accidents. Oh, and I'm 24. General Casualty Insurance. I'd get on a parents policy if you can, save money.

I found a local dealer who is selling a 92 GSR for $4500!!! It has only 90,000k on it too! I have zero speeding tickets, or any tickets for that matter. I have been in one accident, but I don't know if I officially made the "claim" to the insurance company considering the accident was both of our faults. The bad thing is, for my 1988 Caddy, it WAS under my parents name! I have a steady income (not great, but I don't have to pay bills except for insurance: $500-600/month). I plan on saving for a turbo (if I get an LS/GS/RS after I implement my sound system. If I get the GSR, I may leave it stock. So many choices and so many combinations! I definitely want a G2 though. Choices= Save $5k for GSR, or go ahead and buy a LS as soon as I see a good one then turbo it after I make another $2-3K. AHH! It's driving me insane. If anyone sees any phat G2 Tegs in the southeast, let me know!
That sounds like an unbelievable deal on the GS-R
. Almost too good :squint:. I'd go for it. Have it checked out at an Acura dealer (or Honda dealer if you have to, in my experience they're not as smart). $5-600/mo without bills is pretty good. Good luck.

now you said you are coming up with the 4k within a month
who knows if the GS-R will still be there, they sell like hot cakes
but i agree with g2tegls.....good deal but sounds suspicious
but it would be in your best interest to have that car checked out, carfax'ed and all, before negotiations come in to effect.
IMO i would go for a Teg with less miles

Make sure that the 90k mile service has been done on this car you're checkin out. My guess is it hasn't. Think about it. The prior owner probably took it in for an estimate and heard how much it costs for a timing belt, water pump, etc etc and decided to trade it in. Why else would the advertised price be so far below blue book already? That service right there can easily run you up a huge bill. If the clutch hasn't been replaced yet there's probably not a lot of life left in it. The CV boots might be on their way out. The shocks are probably done. Also the power steering pump on the G2's is notoriously failure-prone. Let's see, what else...oxygen sensor is probably old, as is the fuel filter. Oh and you'll love filling up with 91 octane or better. Sure you'll get like 25 miles to the gallon, but it's only a 13-gallon tank.
I learned all this the hard way--the car I bought (this was a couple years ago) had like 62k miles on it and the 60k mile service hadn't been taken care of. I was so set on getting the car because I got caught up in all of the hype about it being the rarest Integra ever blah blah blah and didn't plan ahead on the expenses I'd be incurring.
Generally speaking it's smart to leave money in the bank when you make any sort of big purchase, especially something like a car that's going to suck up a bunch of extra funds. Get the car checked out and if the 90k mile service hasn't been done yet, stay away unless you can get the price below 3 grand.
