Help with CV axle replacement
We removed the driver's side axle from the hub, but cannot get it from the intermediate shaft. Is it just a matter of beating it with a hammer or is the snap ring or something holding it in place?
Alright, so I got the old CV axle off separated from the intermediate shaft and off the car. When I went to put the new axle on however, I realized that it didn't come with a new snap ring. I'm hoping I can easily pick one of these up tomorrow at NAPA. Anyway, so is it then just a matter of putting the new snap ring on, then applying grease to the splines and sliding the axle onto the intermediate shaft, and then replacing everything else back like it was originally? Or is there anything else I need to keep in mind?
EDIT: What kind of grease do I need to use to lube the splined parts on the axle?

Well, so far this is a work in progress. Lost daylight so I have to hold off finishing until tomorrow. I hope I don't run into anymore issues. Also, I read somewhere that they might not give me a return on my core if the old axle is damaged? Because we heated up an whacked at the end of the axle so now it's disfigured. That and the inboard joint bearings are messed up. Oopsy. :reechy:
Alright so I got the new axle on last night. The only problem I ran into was that I didn't replace the spring ring that goes on the end of the intermediate shaft with a new one. I just reused the one that had already been on there and tightened it up as best I could. Is this a major issue? I couldn't get a new one at NAPA and the dealership parts dept. was closed...
